The Municipality of the District of Clare has called a Special Election for District 5 on October 4, 2025. Only those living in District 5 are eligible to vote in the Special Election. Use the Interactive District Map below to see if you live in District 5.

Election Day for the District 5 2025 Special Election is SATURDAY OCTOBER 4, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the following polling station:

Information for voters

Who can vote in municipal elections?

You qualify to vote if you meet all the following conditions:

  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You have been a Canadian citizen since at least the first advance polling day (September 26, 2025);
  • You have been a resident of Nova Scotia since at least six months before the first advance polling day (on or before March 25, 2025);
  • You are ordinarily a resident of the Municipality of Clare and have been so since immediately before the first advance polling day (September 25, 2025);
  • You are not otherwise disqualified to vote in the Municipal Election.
Disqualified persons

You are considered a disqualified person for the purpose of a municipal election if you are:

  • the Municipal Returning Officer
  • a person serving a sentence in a penal or reform institution
  • a person who has been convicted of bribery under the Municipal Elections Act in the six years preceding ordinary polling day

Voting options

The elections team is committed to ensuring that everyone can cast their vote independently. As with previous elections, a combination of Internet and telephone voting (e-voting) and paper ballots will be made available to voters for this year’s election. E-voting will be available during the advanced polls and on election day. Paper ballots will be available election day only.

Vote by advanced polling options

Voters can vote using the Internet or the phone using their PIN anytime from 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26, until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Eligible voters will receive a letter in September with their PIN and voting instructions.

If you need help with electronic voting, please call 902-769-2031 or visit the municipal office at 1185 Highway 1, Little Brook, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from September 26 until October 3 (during the week) and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day (Saturday, October 4, 2025).

Vote by paper ballot

Voters will be able to cast a paper ballot on Election Day, Saturday, October 4, 2025. A notice of poll will be published on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with more details on the polling station, voting hours, and candidates running for election.

Requirements

To be a candidate in the 2025 Special Election, you must be:

  • 18 years of age at the time of nomination
  • a Canadian citizen
  • Be a resident of the Municipality of Clare for at least six months preceding Nomination Day (on or before March 9, 2025) and continue to so reside.

Thinking of running for Council in District 5 in the 2025 Special Election? You don’t need to live in District 5 to run — you just need to have lived anywhere in the Municipality of Clare for at least six months (since at least March 9, 2025).

Filing your nomination papers

Prospective candidates are asked to file their nomination papers with Returning Officer Pam Doucet by appointment on August 28, 29, September 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, or by walk-in on Nomination Day, September 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
